Comfy and light, but still a bit pricey

I got to test out these new glasses and the "Megamind" Blu-ray 3D Disc at a Samsung press event today and I have to say these new Bluetooth 3D glasses are a big improvement over last year's glasses. They weigh under two ounces with the weighting (internal batteries/electronics) positioned in the back so there is very little pressure on the bridge of your nose. A removable nose bridge rests comfortably on the nose (at least it was comfortable on my nose), but can be removed for a better fit in front of prescription glasses. Speaking of which, Samsung describes these glasses as supporting a custom prescription, but the way this is done is by getting prescription clip-on lenses which clip in front of these active shutter lenses (so that is a little misleading). The lenses themselves are active LCD shutter lenses and cannot be custom-ground to prescription.The glasses are available in white and black frames and include a thin but sturdy plastic shade next to the lenses (not easy to see in the picture) which helps to block out ambient light. This helps to boost perceived brightness a bit which is important in the lower lighting of 3D viewing.Also available as a separate option is a wireless recharging base that supports simultaneous charge of up to 4 pairs of glasses without having to plug anything in.Be aware, however, that these glasses will work *only* with the 2011 model year (and above) Samsung 3D TVs as earlier Samsung models did not have the necessary Bluetooth emitter. The glasses are definitely an improvement over last year's but the price is a bit steep and the lack of compatibility with earlier sets, while necessary to give the glasses their lightweight, streamlined design, is sure to be a bit of a letdown to existing Samsung 3D TV owners.*UPDATE (August, 2011)* - I bought a couple of pairs of these last month at the revised pricing and my opinion is about the same as my initial impressions. The Bluetooth/RF connection syncs 3D quickly and keeps it locked better than the IR glasses did. Also, the field of view is better than the current Panasonic 3D glasses, which I feel force you to incline your head a bit in order to see the screen properly. So, all in all, not a bad set of 3D glasses and you do get the full HD 1080p image in 3D mode (unlike passive 3D TVs), which is nice.

These glasses are great but they are too easily smudged. I clean them with the soft cloth that come with them before every viewing but after a short while I notice something on the lens. I don't know if it is steam from my eyes but it happens every time. I don't know what else could cause it. Another thing to keep an eye on is making sure they are really off when you finish using them. I found the battery low on an occasion when they should still have had a charge. Other wise they are fine. The glasses are very light weight and turn on and off automatically. I also like that they are blue tooth so no more drop outs.

These glasses are a nice comfort-improvement to the stock ones that come with the 3D Starter Package and have rechargeable batteries. However, they have a tendency to flicker on and off if you get more than 10-12 feet from the TV. Not sure if a more expensive pair won't have this problem. Regardless, they paired easily and have been generally great for use.
